Daytona Beach Vs. West Palm
At West Palm
3/5/04
It was evident in the first half that the grueling 3 hour drive to West Palm had taken its toll. Daytona travelled well bringing 24 men and filling most of the stands with loyal Coconut fans.
Right from the opening kick off West Palm attacked, driving the ball down the field several times. Daytona was forced to rely on the golden boot of Alexis Baristow to relieve the pressure. A knock on deep in West Palm territory offered Daytona its first real opportunity. The ball came quickly out of the scrum to fly half Gary Woloszyn on the right, with a perfectly thrown pass, Daytona switched fields to the left and Alex Wanyama was off to the races. Finding holes left right and center he explode into the try Zone for the games first try.
West Palm answer back quickly attacking right from the restart. With a few strong breaks by their loose forwards the number 8 set up the wing for their first points. With the converted try the game was tied at 7.
Following some "VERY" open play Daytona again found itself deep in West Palm Territory with a line out. Brian "Hollywood Hands" Richardson took the ball off the top and Daytona's tight five drove the maul down the field. Putting the defense on the back foot allowed Gary to again set up Alex on a crash ball through the heart of the defense, recapturing the lead for Daytona 14-7.
On the ensuing kick off Daytona would put the game on ice, returning the kick 80 yards with several brilliant runs, capped of by Dan Vandellen breaking through for the try.
